You may be at your goal weight or have never been overweight in your life and still battle the bulge under your chin.  At Dr. Black Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, we understand that the submental fat under the chin is a difficult spot for fat reduction, and this is why we offer Kybella injections at our Metairie, LA office.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Kybella injections in the chin for patients over the age of 18.  By implementing this treatment made up of deoxycholic acid with several injections within the area of your chin, it will effectively destroy the fat cells so that they can no longer store unattractive fat.  Dr. Elliott Black and Dr. Summer Black both perform these injections as an alternative to neck liposuction.  Kybella results should last long term, however, if your weight goes up, it will change the fullness of your chin do to the fat that is left behind.  We may recommend 3 Kybella treatment sessions in order to get the optimal results.

If you are 18-years-of-age and older, you may qualify for Kybella if you have the following:

• Mild to moderate fat under your chin (also known as a "double chin," or "turkey neck")
• A recommendation for a nonsurgical approach for neck fat reduction

You may not wish to have neck liposuction at this stage in your life, and Kybella allows you to have a nonsurgical treatment that is injected into the submental area (where the chin and neck meet) to reduce fat and correct your facial profile.

At your outpatient Kybella injection session in our office, we will mark the area of your neck to be treated and topically numb the area before beginning the needle insertion. Prepare yourself for several small injections into the fatty area of the chin.  Icing the area may also be used to limit the amount of pain you feel after the injection. You can expect your treatment session to last about 15 – 20 minutes.  Most of our patients have 3 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart.

The good news about Kybella injections is that there is no downtime, however, patients will experience swelling and perhaps some minor pain, bruising, and redness.  These side effects may last a couple days, and if they last longer, please contact our office.  Many of our patients see a distinct change in their neck fat with one treatment!  However, most patients want to see a noticeable difference and come back for the full series of injection sessions.
